HOMESCHOOLERS OF GRAND ISLAND
ABOUT
BACKGROUND
I created this co-op after my husband and I decided to pull our kids from public school and educate at home, but saw there was nothing around us to offer support. No classes, groups, co-ops, nothing. So clearly there was a need and I decided I must fill it. Families started joining immediately and it quickly grew throughout the first month. I was thrilled to see how our group developed to meet the needs of its families and how everyone came together so enthusiastically. I'm proud of what it has become already and look forward to the future it holds!
HOW WE WORK
A co-op is a group run by the parents who participate in it. We are the teachers and the volunteers within it. None of us are paid and it's not a drop-off program. Parents stay in the building, leading classes, assisting teaching, and supervising. It’s held at a church on Grand Island and we meet once a week for a few hours. The year is broken up into quarters and new classes are created each new session. Some classes are broken into age ranges, some are mixed age classes. Last year we had a quarter where classes were a la carte and another that you signed up for a track and took the whole line-up within that track. Ages of those in the co-op range from toddler through high school. Welcome!
